The bio

Tahir began his professional life as an English drama teacher before discovering his true passion for stand-up comedy when he first performed at the Sydney Comedy Store in 1995. Within twelve months he won the coveted Sydney Comedian of the Year award, launching a career that would take him to comedy clubs and festivals around the world.

Known for his warm, observational style, Tahir’s comedy reflects the everyday experience of modern Australia. Of Turkish descent, he often draws on the humour and challenges of growing up in a multicultural society, celebrating both the differences and shared moments that connect people.

Throughout his career Tahir has written, directed and starred in highly successful stage productions that have played to large audiences and earned enthusiastic reviews. He has also built an impressive television career, appearing on popular programs including Rove Live, The Footy Show, All Saints, Thank God You’re Here and The Librarians.

Tahir is perhaps best known for his role as Habib in the hit Australian comedies Fat Pizza, Swift and Shift Couriers and Housos. He also co-wrote the screenplay for the Fat Pizza film, which enjoyed one of the most successful opening weekends for an Australian movie.

A prolific writer and creator, Tahir later developed and starred in the sitcom Here Come the Habibs and helped create the family comedy StreetSmart. Today he remains a dynamic international performer, known for his energy, creativity and ability to connect with audiences everywhere through laughter and sharp storytelling.
